Remortgaging

The mortgage ‘deal’ on our home expires at the end of February so my wife and I have started the process of remortgaging.  Always a painful and time consuming exercise, doing it now of course involves even more difficulty because of the problems with the banks/building societies’ lending practices.

On Saturday, we traipsed around Leicester visiting one potential lender after another trying to find the equivalent of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow – namely ‘the best deal on the market’!

Obviously I cannot name names but the differing levels of customer service on offer between the lenders was quite an eye opener.  We eventually got a more positive response and are in the process of deciding between two.  It does not stop with choosing the lender because then we have to decide between fixed and tracker, differing levels of fees and repayment period.

Of course, all this fuss could have been avoided if our current lender (with whom we have been very happy for several years) was able to offer a confirmed deal at a competitive rate.  Despite the first rule in business being that it is easier to retain existing customers than find new ones, our lender cannot/will not do so.
