Interchange, Wolverhampton’s major mixed use development, incorporating a 21st century public transport hub, has taken a major step forward following the confirmation of ministerial support for an additional £13M of targeted funds.
Provided through the Regional Funding Allocation process, the resource will fund the redevelopment of the bus station, the first phase of the £175M project. Secured through the direct intervention and lobbying of central government by the local partners, this funding is in addition to that already earmarked for the project by Advantage West Midlands. The OJEU process to select a contractor is well underway.
In parallel, a planning application for phase one is to be submitted in June 2009 with an application for phase two following in July. It is anticipated that work on site will start by the end of the year.
